Senate Summoned Aviation Minister, Others Over Incessant Crashes

CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the Nigerian Senate has summoned the Aviation Minister, Princess Stella Oduah, to come and explain situation of things in the aviation sector, especially recent resurgence of plane crashes in the national airspace.

Our sources revealed that the Director-General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA and the Managing Director of Nigeria Airspace Management Agency, NAMA were also summoned to appear before it on a date that will soon be discussed.

This came as the nation witnessed another crash last week when the Associated Airline conveying the remains of late former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, crashed at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, killing 13 out of 20 people on board.

Also, another Saudi-bound Kabo Airline crash was averted when the plane made emergency landing at the Sokoto Airport, with over 400 pilgrims escaping unhurt.

The Senate condemn the incessant plane crashes and then inability of those concern to unravel the cause of those crashes.

The aviation committee of the Senate was compelled to investigate the cause of crashes and ascertain the level of compliance by relevant agencies with the recent resolution of the Senate on the Dana air crash and air safety.

It further mandated the committee on aviation to investigate and identify lapses in the operation of laws and regulations guiding the aviation industry by the ministry and all its agencies with a view to correcting and streamlining same in order to avert further disasters.

The resolution to summon the aviation minister and other relative personnel was sponsored by Senator Hope Uzodimma (PDP, Imo West).
