THE embattled Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky-led Shi’ite Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) has rejected an investigative panel set up by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau to look into sect’s clash with the army last Saturday in Zaria.
Early this week, the Federal Government sent a delegation, led by Dambazau to assess the situation.
Spokesman of the Shi’ite, Ibrahim Musa, in a statement rejected the investigative panel based on its composition.
The development is against the backdrop of Governor el- Rufai’s visit to Zaria to assess the destruction sites of the clash between the military and the Shi’ite.
El-rufai, who was accompanied by top government functionaries during his second assessment visit since the clash occured, visited the deserted levelled ground residence of the sect’s leader, Sheik Ibraheem El Zakzaky at Gyellesu, coordinating centre, Hussainiya within the city and resource centre/ cementary in Dambo village, suburb of Zaria.
In a related development, the Katsina State branch of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has joined many well meaning Nigerians to condemn last weekend military action against leaders and members of Shi’ite Movement in Zaria.
CAN Chairman in Katsina, who led some Christians in the state on a condolence visit to the Interim National Leader of the Shi’ite group, Sheik Yakubu Yahaya, at his Katsina residence frowned at the huge number of lives reportedly lost.
Onyekachukwu prayed that such tragedy would not befall the nation again, no matter the degree of provocation.
