It was gathered that the United Nations Security Council has approved a resolution to assist in stabilizing the war-torn Central African Republic by calling on Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to prepare options for helping a small African Union force in the country.

Our source gathered that the options should include the possibility of transforming the force into a U.N. peacekeeping operation.

Since the Francois Bozize-led government was overthrown by the Seleka rebel in March, the country has descended into chaos in one way or the other. Rebel fighters have attacked and looted villages, displacing tens of thousands of civilians.

Just last week, violence between the Seleka group and local self-defence group killed at least 23 people in the country.
