Court Sentenced Six Men to Jail for Robbery in Tanzania

Six accused persons were convicted after the magistrate was satisfied by the evidence given by the prosecution to prove the charges of conspiracy and armed robbery leveled against them.

Kelvin Luambano , 27, Mohammed Salum, 32, Nesser Khamis, 21 and one other who escaped from custody, were sentenced to 30 years in jail each.

According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Hamis Said, on November 28, 2010, at Mbezi Beach area in Kinondoni District in the City, the accused stole a Nissan Primera with registration number  T 971 AWP and one blackberry mobile phone belonging to one Mr. David Mutabazi.

It was also alleged that before the offence was committed, the accused threatened the owner by firing bullets onto the right door window of the vehicle. It was alleged that on the same date and place, the accused stole two other blackberry mobile phones and one Samsung owned by Pamela Mutabazi, and before the act, the accused also threatened her by firing bullets.

Delivering the judgement, the magistrate ordered that the accused be jailed 30 years for each count concurrently, while in the second case, Magistrate Mwaseba jailed Jackson Zebedayo, 28, and Charles Wambura, 38, for 30 years after being found guilty of conspiracy and armed robbery.
