NSC PLEDGES IT SUPPORT FOR NIGERIA SPORTS AWARD

The National Sports Commission has vowed its support to ensure that the initiative of the Nigeria Sports Award is successful and sustained towards rewarding and recognizing excellent performance in sports.

This assurance was given on Monday by the NSC Director General, Gbenga Elegbeleye, when the members of the award panel, led by the panel Mr. Ikeddy Isiguzo, paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the National Stadium in Abuja.

Elegbeleye said the awards would help to develop sports in Nigeria by promoting healthy competition among athletes who would be looking forward to receiving them.

He commended the organizers of the award for introducing the Sports Governor of the Year category of the awards, stressing that the category would not only encourage the governor that emerge as the winner but also challenge other governors to do more in the area of sports development in their respective states.

In his remarks, Isiguzo explained that the visit of the award panel members was to seek the support of the NSC for the awards and to also formally notify and invite the DG, the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, and the Vice President ahead of the November 26 event in Lagos.
