Report reaching the news desk of CEOAFRICA.com from Somalia is that one of the prominent pirate leaders has been arrested in Belgium.

Mohammed Abdi Hassan, also known as Afweyneh (Big Mouth), was reportedly held at Brussels airport after arriving on a plane from Kenya.

The suspect, who has earned millions of dollars in ransom payments as a result of acts of piracy,  is expected to face piracy charges.

In January, Mohammed Abdi Hassan was reported to have said that he had renounced crime after eight years in the piracy business. 

Belgian vessels have in the past taken part in international missions against piracy on the high seas off Somalia.
