Charles Taylor, the former Liberian President who was recently sentenced to 50yrs for war crime by UN-backed Special Court has requested to be allowed to serve his jail terms in Rwanda, rather than the UK.

The convicted ex-Liberian President made this appeal in his letter to the court explaining that it would be easier and less expensive for his family to visit him in Africa.

He also expressed fear that the British prison might attack him.

Taylor was convicted by the UN-backed Special Court for aiding rebels who committed atrocities in Sierra Leone during its civil war.

Charles Taylor however is said to be the first former head of state to be convicted of war crimes since World War II.
