Tragedy struck the University of Ibadan community at the weekend when the news about the death of Emeritus Professor of Planning and Development, Michael Filani, was made public.

Sources disclosed that the deceased, who was a former deputy vice-chancellor of the institution, slumped and died on Sunday while watching the Ethiopia/Nigeria World Cup qualifying playoff in his house at Oluyole Extension situated in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Emeritus Professor, an Ikole-Ekiti indigene, was described by sympathizers as agile and radiant at his last public outing.

He joined the premier university 37 years ago and has served in various capacities.
