Following news spreading across the media yesterday that the All Progressives Grand Alliance Governorship candidate in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election Chief Willie Obiano, is being fingered for double registration, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Anambra State Chapter, had denied the allegation.

CEOAFRICA.com gathered that an allegation of double registration was leveled against Chief Willie Obiano by an online publication, saying the APGA governorship candidate had procured a voter’s card in Lagos sometime ago and also went ahead to procure another voter’s card at his home town in Aguleri to enable him vote in Anambra State during the governorship election holding on November 16.

The online publication further went on to disclose that if Willie Obiano is found guilty of double registration, he can be disqualified on the charges of electoral fraud.

Speaking about the allegation, Anambra State APGA chairman, Chief Mike Kwentoh, said the allegation of double registration leveled against Obiano was not true.

The APGA Chieftain added that what Obiano did was to transfer his registration from Lagos to Anambra States, and this was in accordance with the rule of the INEC.

The Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Professor Chukwuemeka Onukogu, had warned against any act of double registration during the ongoing voters revalidation exercise in Anambra State. He said the act attracts a severe fine of N100,000 or one year imprisonment or both as stipulated by the Electoral Act 2010 as amended.

He explained that the procedure was that an indigene of Anambra State resident  in another state, who registered there in the previous exercise and for one reason or the other relocated to the state should also transfer his or her INEC voter’s registration to Anambra through his office at the INEC to enable such a person to vote.

The online publication further alleged that APGA chieftains are making frantic efforts to cover up the allegation by contacting the Head of the ICT department of INEC in the state to delete the Lagos voter’s card allegedly obtained by Obiano.

The online publication also revealed that if the allegations were proven, the running-mate of Obiano in the primaries, Hon. Uche Ekwunife, may replace him
