The last play-off game of the first-leg encounter for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil ended yesterday as Black Stars of Ghana walloped the Pharaos of Egypt 6-1 in Kumasi yesterday night.

The much anticipated encounter between the two sides started on an impressive note for Ghana when captain Asamoah Gyan thumped in the opener in the 4th minute of the game, only for Michael Essien’s run to make it 2-0 when Wael Gomaa put the ball in his own goal.

Hope seems to be restored for Egypt when veteran Aboutrika converted a spot kick to make it 2-1, but Majeed Waris headed in the third goal for the host.

Sulley Muntary converted a spot kick for the Black Stars to make it 4-1, while Christian Atsu put Ghana far ahead with the fifth goal of the game.

Captain Asamoah Gyan then made it six goals to wrap up the pulsating encounter, thus guaranteeing that Ghana now have more than 90 percent advantage of qualifying for their third straight World Cup.

The tension had been ramped up during the build-up to the tie because Ghana had written to FIFA asking for the 16 November second leg to be switched from the Egyptian capital Cairo because of safety fears.

The First-Leg Play-off Results are as follows:

Burkina Faso 3-2 Algeria

CIV 3-1 Senegal

Ethiopia 1-2 Nigeria

Tunisia 0-0 Cameroun

Ghana 6-1 Egypt
