CEOAFRICA.com gathered that a funeral that was to hold for Erich Priebke a Nazi war criminal had been put to halt amid angry protesters in Italy as over 500 people in the city of Albano Laziale shouted “murderer’’ and “executioner’’ and clashed with Nazi sympathizers, as his coffin passed.
According to source, Priebke's lawyer, Paolo Giachini, said the funeral had been stopped because the authorities had prevented friends and family entery and it had nothing to do with politics.
The former German SS officer, who was jailed for life in 1998 over the killing of more than 300 civilians, died under house arrest in Rome last week at the age of 100. Since his death, there has been fierce debate over what to do with his body.
