Reports reaching CEOAFRICA is that over the weekend Poultry Association of Nigeria have decried the omission of poultry farmer in Federal Government subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme- (SURE-P) intervention on Agriculture during the world egg day in Abeokuta.

According to source, they said it is a misplaced priority on the part FG to omit poultry farmers who despite harsh economic condition still contribute to economic growth, in the list of those in need of financial support. Adding that they are also in dire need of financial support for the industry to grow and maximize profit.

They also said that the industry may suffer economic death if urgent and necessary enabling environment is not provided by government since the influx of cheaper poultry product from international market is looming.

According to Mr. Olufemi Faniyi, Chairman of Poultry Association of Nigeria, South-West zone, Nigerian poultry farmers are groaning over 100% increase in the price of raw materials used in poultry production as compared to other developing countries. He therefore called on the government for urgent action to be taken so that poultry industry will not witness a serious setback.
