The International Criminal Court has disclosed that President Uhuru Kenyatta need not to attend all of his court charges of crimes against humanity, but must be present at certain key parts.

Both Kenyatta and William Ruto, his Vice, are facing charges on crimes against humanity which was allegedly perpetuated in 2007.

Friday's ruling states that the Kenyan president must be physically present during the opening and closing statements, hearings where victims "present their views and concerns in person," the verdict, and any other sessions determined by the court.

The exemption, according to the judges, was granted to accommodate the demanding functions of Kenyatta’s office as President of Kenya.
