CEOAFRICA gathered that ASUU (Academic Staff Union of University) has vowed to push on with its strike despite the no work, no pay rule applied by the federal government for their failure to suspend the nationwide strike which is now in its fourth month.

The body who has described the move of FG as barbaric, obsolete and inhuman has said no amount of pressure would prevent it from making the federal government to implement the agreement between reached with it in 2009.

According to Dr. Ayan Adeleke, chairman of Ekiti state chapter of the union, in a statement said he is disappointed that the federal government has resorted to using blackmail to force ASUU to back out on the fight. According to him, this will only aggravate the issue. He also said that those who are asking ASUU to back down should also prevail on the FG to give a positive answer by implementing the agreement in whole.

Dr. Ayan also describe as unfortunate the decision of Yinka Gbadebo, president of NANS (National Association of Nigerian students) to back out of ASUU strike despite the fact the body is trying to protect the interest of Nigerian students. He said   “we will not succumb to blackmail; we will remain focused until the 2009 agreement is implemented.
