The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government to shift grounds and initiate a better resolution that would put an end to the more than three months strike by the Academic Staff Union of universities (ASUU).

The appeal was made by the CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, addressing the newsmen in Abuja on Monday.

Pastor Oritsejafor disclosed that CAN has been doing its best, making moves towards ending the stalemate, adding that he had put several calls across in resolution of the strike but it is not yielding at the moment.

The CAN President also congratulated President GoodLuck Jonathan on the issue of National conference for taking the bold step, indicating the committee created by CAN is ready to officially present a paper concerning the national conference.

He purported that the issue of national conference is exciting and important for the country, stating that though the nation is facing challenging time, it will come out of it as no nation grows without challenges.

He said Nigerians should come together to put all their cards on the table, “ let every tribe, organisations, bodies come together and talk, because the fact is that we can talk.”

“When we talk, we would be able to know what is on each other’s minds;  if you don’t talk, you won’t know what the other man has in mind,” he said.

He concluded however that the conference presents an incredible opportunity for Nigerians to sit and talk, noting that there should be no room for ‘no go area’.
