CEOAFRICA.com gathered from Zimbabwe that security agents have arrested 38 Ethiopian immigrants as they tried to cross into the South Africa using an illegal crossing point along the Limpopo River.

Speaking about the arrest, Beitbridge district ZRP boss, chief superintendent Lawrence Chinhengo, said the people were arrested following a tip off:

“We received a tip off that there were 38 Ethiopians being transported abroad a Senator Express bus from Mutare.

“Our officers then teamed up with the department of immigration and apprehended them at Lutumba toll gate and investigations are still in progress.

“We have had a numbers of such cases where these illegal immigrants come into the country come in through Mutare. We are not living any stone unturned we want to get to the bottom of this syndicate.”

Our source also disclosed that the suspects, most of the aged between 20 and 30 years, were picked up by their host at Valley Lodge along Beira Road in Mutare who also expected to facilitate their travel to South Africa.

Police also arrested the bus crew of Richmore Mundihwo, 40, Misheck Demhe, 33, and Roselyne Munhenga, 29.

“We will not tolerate such lawlessness when people go to the extent of hiring buses to facilitate illegal migration,” Chinhengo added.
