FIVE DIES OF CHOLERA IN SOKOTO

Alhaji Bala Oroji, Deputy Director of Health, Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, disclosed that five persons are suspected to have died of cholera at Barkeji village.

The Health Director also revealed that there was a case in October 14 where three persons, a female and two males, out of nine infected persons died, highlighting another incident on October where a female and a male died due to the epidemic, out of the remaining infected persons.

He further disclosed that 11 infected persons were hospitalized at the Barkeji Community Dispensary on Sunday, four of which have been discharged on Monday, while the remaining seven on admission at the health centre are still receiving treatment.

Oroji said that the local government had embarked on a massive public enlightenment campaign to educate the people on the need to maintain good sanitary environment, sensitizing them on the need to keep their environment clean, drink clean water and also ensure personal hygiene.

He assured however that the situation has been brought under control, noting that the incident has been reported to the Ministry of Health and that it has assisted the community with additional drugs.
