The Deputy Speaker of Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable David Babatunde Olaniyan, has advised politicians in the country to always toe the part of integrity in their political affairs.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with CEOAFRICA online news, immediately after the State Assembly concluded its plenary today (Thursday 24th October, 2013), Honourable Olaniyan, popularly known as Akoro, said it is only when politicians develop flare for integrity that the people will begin to see them as the real hope of the masses.

“When a politician toes the part of integrity, he/she will be able to move closer to the people he claims to represent. Politicians should always maintain their integrity by not allowing themselves to be influenced with monetary values because when you sell your conscience as a politician, you can never use the same money to buy your integrity again,” he said.

Hon. Olaniyan, an ACCORD party legislator representing Ibadan North 1 State Constituency, described the current state assembly as a combination of matured and focus-driven lawmakers, always working for the progress and the developments of the state, despite the fact that they are from different political parties:

“The current assembly in the state is a combination of matured and experienced members who have the interest of the people at heart.

“Although we can disagree with each other sometimes, but the disagreement is always for the progress of the state. We have legislatures who were once local government chairmen, councilors and many more.  So, the political experiences which each of us has acquired, helped in blending us, despite our political differences,” the Deputy Speaker said.

At the plenary presided over by the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Monsurat Sumonu , the House directed that Oyo State Transporters Enumeration and Registration Scheme OYSTER, to suspend every activity pending the time it appear before the house to clarify allegations of illegal fees, extortion and harrasement allegedly levelled against OYSTER.

The House adjourned sitting till Thursday, October 31, 2013.
