Following the much-publicised news that the Deputy Speaker of Oyo House of Assembly, Hon. David Tunde Olaniyan representing Ibadan North 1 Constituency, was involved in a ghastly motor accident, the prominent lawmaker has described the news as mere “rumour”.

Hon. Olaniyan, popularly known as Akoro, disclosed to CEOAFRICA.com during an exclusive interview that he was not involved in the accident, contrary to what some social media network purported:

“Conscious of the fact that I cannot be in many places at the same time, I have to delegate duties to some of my officials.  The accident happened when my driver, who went on a mission along with some staff, was coming from Atisbo after dropping those that went along with him at their respective destination. It was a minor occurrence which was blown out of proportion.

“That same day, I was sitting in my house watching a television programme with my wife, when some of her associates called, saying they read online that I was involved in a ghastly motor accident. My wife told the caller that I am beside her and nothing of such happened.

“Many people called afterward to confirm if I was truly involved in the accident, saying they read it online that I was drunk and had fatal accident. The vehicle involved was a Pilot vehicle strictly made for Security personnel to government officials. If I was to go out and refresh myself, would I have gone with the Pilot van?

The erudite ACCORD Party lawmaker said the accident was blown out of proportion by those looking for cheap popularity online:

“I was at my house when I received the news about the accident, contrary to claims by some online service providers who were looking for attention that I was involved in the accident,” the prominent politician explained.
