Senator Chris Ngige, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the forthcoming November 16th Anambra State governorship election, was alleged to have embarrassed a Catholic Priest by slapping and ordering his aides to beat up the man of God.

The supposed incident happened at a funeral ceremony of the mother of the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor in Nanka, Agulu, Anambra State on Thursday.

It was revealed that the diminutive Senator erroneously concluded that Rev.Fr. Everistus Ezekwona was deliberately standing in his way and went ahead to pounce on the priest with anger, before holding him on the throat and then unleash series of slaps on both sides of the clergy’s face.

Our source revealed that Ngige, who was not yet satisfied with the level of embarrasement he had unleashed on the priest, ordered his aides to deal with him and they (The Aides) inflicted more bodily injuries on the victim.

Obiora Onwuama, an eye witness at the occasion revealed to CEOAFRICA.com that the Senator did not even recognised the fact that the Priest was wearing cassock:

“We were all horrified at the sight. Senator Ngige must have acted blindly because the man was dressed in his cassock. There were screams of shock and horror from the onlookers but Senator Ngige could not be stopped. He must have mistaken Fr. Evaristus for a member of the opposition party.

“The earlier assumption that Senator Ngige may have acted in error soon gave way to a deeper fear when upon his instruction, his aides descended heavily on the hapless priest, punching and kicking him to the consternation of onlookers,” he said.
