From Antananarivo, the capital city of Madagascar, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the just concluded presidential election has been adjudged free, fair and credible by international observers.

Friday’s poll, which was the first of its kind since a coup in 2009, could help to restore normalcy into the country.

Meanwhile, Richard Jean-Louis Robinson, an ally of the ousted President Marc Ravalomanana, is leading the park with 30% of votes counted so far, followed by Martial Rakotoarimanana Rajaonarimampianina with 15% of votes.

While expressing her view about the election, EU chief election observer, Maria Muniz de Urquiza said the election was free, transparent and credible, despite isolated incidents of violence.

Her counterpart from Southern African Development Community (SADC) Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, described the poll as peaceful, calm, fair and transparent, adding that it reflected the will of the people.

Observers disclosed that the incoming president must work harder to rebuild the country’s economy because over 21 million people live on less than $2 a day; a feat which was triggered by high-rates of unemployment and lack of necessary infrastructures which would aid development.
