The President, Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr. Femi Adesina has urged online publishers in the country towards adequate verification of stories before uploading.

Mr. Femi Adesina gave the advice while addressing the publishers, under the aegis of the Nigerian Online Publishers Association during a meeting in Lagos.

While commending the publishers for their effort in improving journalism, he advised them to ensure thorough editing of their stories, challenging professionals in the medium to set standards, saying there is need for a self-regulating regime among online publishers.

He added that “Online is very critical now to journalism, stressing that certain stories like Oduahgate, The Arab Spring, would not have seen the light of the day but for the online media.

He concluded however that the online media would thrive if the publishers ensured professionalism.
