It was the gathering of political power houses as Sokoto State took a giant stride in education when it officially commissioned the state university.

In his address at the ceremony, the Speaker of the House of Representative, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal congratulated the state governor, Aliyu Wamatakarda Wamako, on the execution of the project which would help to steer the ship of education forward in Nigeria. He urged the people of Sokoto to embrace this kind gesture by ensuring that education is encouraged throughout the state.

In the same vein, Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, advised the host governor not to relent in his efforts to promote qualitative education in the state.

Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, said as a lover of education, he was pleased with what he has seen so far in the university.

The host governor, Aliyu Wamako, said the university would offer uninterrupted services to the people.

“This is going to be a strike-free university because the state is committed in satisfying every agreement with the staffs. It is the university of our dream that will make giant academic impression in the Nigerian education sector.” He said.

In his inaugural speech, former head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar rejoiced with Sokoto state on this achievement.

He defined University as a place where people go to acquire skills that will be relevant in the development of the nation.

“This university should teach what the needs of societies are and how they can be integrated for better development.

“This university was the dream of late Sultan of Sokoto  who was also former  premier of the northern region, Alh. Amadu Bello. I am glad that the dream is coming to a reality today.” He said.

Abubakar, however recommended that the institution should embrace partnership with other prominent universities across the world in order to acquire rapid greatness beyond human expectations.

Other dignitaries at the occasion were former head of state, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, former President Shehu Shagari, Governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Musa Kwankwonso (Kano), Abdulfatar Ahmed (Kwara), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sultan of Sokoto, Alh. Saad Abubakar , former governor of Borno State Alimodu Sherif, and other distinguished personalities from every works of life.
