Protesters handed over a petition to the Kenya Police demanding justice for a teenager who was gang-raped by three men, while the police only ordered the rapists to cut grass as their punishment.

According to sources, over 300 people staged a peaceful protest to the Police Headquarters in Nairobi, where they handed over the petition signed by over 1.2 million people demanding that the rapists should be arrested immediately for proper prosecution.

The victim identified as Liz, 16, was gang-raped by three men shortly after returning from the burial of her grandfather in Busia, before they dumped her unconscious body inside a pit latrine and she is now on wheelchair.

Petitioners also demanded that the police officers who let the rapists walk away should also be queried.

The case got global attention when a human right activist heard that the men were only asked to cut grass around a police station in the same Busia, near Lake Victoria. Online awareness was raised through social media using #Justice4Liz.

Protesters, according to our source, carried placards with one of them reading “Justice for Liz”, and all of them left the placards outside the police headquarters.
