The revolutionary conflict ongoing in the Darfur region of Sudan has recently claimed the life of 7 UN peacekeepers and left 17 severely injured.

According to the spokesman for The Joint Africa Union-United Nations Mission (Unamid), Christopher Cycmanick,  the incident took place at the mission’s base at Manawashi, north of Nyala, as the peacekeepers were on parol about 25km (16miles) west from a second Unamid base at Khar Abeche, in South Darfur.

The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon has frown at the bizarre and has call for proper investigation of the incident in which the alleged 7 that died were said to be all Tanzanian.

Mr. Cycmanick said that a large group armed men who they had not been able to identify had attacked the peacekeepers and there had been an intense exchange of gunfire.

The irritated UN Secretary General had however stated that the government of Sudan is expected to take quick action to bring the perpetrators to book.

It has been estimated that more than 300,000 people have died in Darfur since the conflict started against the Khartoum government in 2003, and more than 16,00 Unamid troops are said be currently based in Darfur.
