A Court in South Africa has sentenced a man found guilty of raping and killing a 17-year-old girl to two life terms in prison.

CEOAFRICA.com gathered that 21-year-old Johannes Kana was found guilty of causing the death of Anene Booysen in February, hours after she was mutilated at a construction site near her house in Bredasdorp.

The incident attracted outcry from several angles, including President Jacob Zuma who described the attack as shocking, cruel and inhumane. He then said harsh sentences should be meted out to rapists.

During the trial, doctors who treated Ms Booysen described her horrific injuries - one said they were the worst injuries she had ever seen.

Just before she died, she said in hospital that five or six men had been involved in the attack.

But state prosecutors say that at the time she was intoxicated, in pain and under heavy medication so she may have been confused.

Initially, three suspects were arrested, but only Kana, who confessed that he raped the victim stood trial. He however said he did not kill her.
