CEOAFRICA gathered that United Kingdom may have dropped the plan of imposing £3,000 visa bond on visitors from six commonwealth countries, including Nigeria.

This is indicated by the fact that the scheme has failed to kick off on Friday, November 1 as proposed in June coupled with several other reports which alleged that the policy had been cancelled.

It would be recalled that the United Kingdom in the second quarter of this year proposed to impose £3,000 refundable visa bond on visitors from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and Ghana to deter them from overstaying.

It would also be recalled that the Federal Government on June summoned the UK High Commissioner, Andrew Pocock following media reports that the UK government was considering imposing a visa bond on first time visitors from Nigeria.

However a UK official who spoke anonymously is reported to have confirmed on Friday that there had been no official communication from the home country on the visa bond, which almost generated a diplomatic row between UK and Nigeria on one hand and the affected countries on the other hand.
