From India, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that not less than seven people were killed in an attack by suspected militants in the state of Assam late Sunday night.

Sources revealed that suspected gunmen belonging to the Garo National Liberation Army opened fire at migrant workers who were playing cards and gambling to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights.

Speaking about the unfortunate incident, AP Raut, a senior Assam police official shed more light on the incident.

“These militants in army dress came and fired indiscriminately… after the attack, they retreated to Meghalaya," he said.

Correspondents say many tribespeople resent the presence of outsiders, who they believe are taking their jobs and marrying local women.
