The Academic Staff Union of Universities has reinstated that the only remedy to the ongoing strike is for the Federal government to implement the agreement it freely entered with the Union in 2009.

CEOAFRICA gathered this during an exclusive interview with Dr. Segun Ajiboye, the ASUU Chairman, University of Ibadan Chapter shortly after a closed-door meeting of the unions at the council chamber of the University of Ibadan on Monday.

Dr. Ajiboye who stressed that the union is not demanding anything new other than that of 2009 agreement, insisted that it is only when the Federal government cash-back the funding of Universities that the Union will begin to negotiate anything with them.

Reacting to whether there has been any response so far from the Federal government, the ASUU boss stated that there had been on the side of paid allowance but that the funding which the Federal Government reported to have distributed has not been concretized, noting that the unions are yet to receive anything from the proposed fund.

He highlighted that the Federal Government had adopted the policy of ‘no work, no pay’ using hunger to fight the union but that the union has resolved to sacrifice everything for the sake of the country to bring sanity to the funding of education by the Federal Government.

Dr. Ajiboye concluded however that the ASUU is ever ready to pursue their goal till the Union is giving a satisfactory response which is that the Federal Government should cash-back the proposed funding of the Universities, implementing fully the 2009 agreement it entered with the Union.
