Traditional leaders in Kenya have been urged to embrace technology in a bid to control the rising fears of insecurity in the country.

CEOAFRICA gathered that Kajiado Deputy Commissioner, Mwangi Kahiro while attending an induction ceremony in Matasia, said local chiefs should complement government efforts in monitoring the security situation.

Kahiro said that the chiefs and their assistants  should open up accounts on such platforms as Facebook and Twitter and subsequently interact with many locals as possible saying that an administration would monitor the accounts round the clock.

“The locals will be able to notify us in case of an emergency and we will respond to the emergency promptly’’ he said.

He further stated that the administrators will have to attend IT classes in order for them to be able to work efficiently with the new technology adding that they will require an internet- enabled phone for them to sustain the social network.

According to him, this project may attract emulation by other countries experiencing similar security challenges. He also said the interactions between locals and administrators will provide a platform for individual to share sensitive information to authorities without fear.

This initiative has come a few days after Kenyan president; Uhuru Kenyatta pledged to increase security conditions in the country.
