NSCDC parades 2 suspected NNPC pipeline vandals

The Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday paraded two suspected NNPC pipeline vandals while a petroleum tanker was impounded.

 

The suspected pipeline vandals were Oke Matthew(32) and Adewale Durojaiye (55).They were arrested at Arowomole Industrial area in Ogbomosho on October 30 while during an operation. The state Commandant, Mr. Shem Obafaiye while parading the suspects said the 14,000 litres of petroleum tanker marked Lagos AD 915 SMK was  recovered while been conveyed along Amosun village in Afijio Local Government Area of the state.

 

He said the tanker was recovered from the vandals on October 28, stating that the driver of the tanker on sighting his men, demobilised the vehicle, abandoned it and took to his heel."They have demobilised the tanker and we have to contact the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) which provided us with another vehicle which was used intrans-loading the PMS. NNPC also provided a towing vehicle which we used in towing the empty tanker to our office," he said. He added that a sample of the PMS had been taken by the NNPC and have confirmed that it was pure PMS.

 

According to him, other items recovered from the tanker included digger, hole, screw driver, chisel and many other instrument used by the vandals.

He told CEOAFRICA reporter that the items to be removed belonged to the Ministry of Environment. He said the suspects would be prosecuted. One of the suspected vandals, Durojaye while speaking with our reporter, said they

were the contractor for the evacuation of  project in the area, saying, " we have informed the Baale of Arowomole. "Matthew led us to the Baale been a son of the land and the Baale said another tanker must be used for exchange. We went and buy another tanker for exchange, we were about putting the tank when the Civil Defence officers came and arrested us."
