CEOAFRICA news desk gathered that Governor Obi on Wednesday renamed the popular Anambra State University (ANSU) after Late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu in celebration of his 80th posthumous birthday.

The Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, announced the renaming in a live broadcast on the television station of the Anambra Broadcasting Service.

It was also gathered from Governor Obi’s remark that the decision to change the name of the university was informed by the heroic contributions of Ojukwu to the Igbo people.

The occasion, which witnessed an unprecedented crowd, is said to also witness the presentation of the cheque of N5 billion to the management of the school for continued infrastructural development as well as the paying back of about N500 million borrowed from a bank by the school.

Governor Obi further presented four security fitted patrol vehicles to the university and two new buses to the students’ union in both campuses – Uli and Igbariam- as well as announced increase in the monthly funding of the university by 15 per cent, starting from January.

He however reiterated the commitment of his administration to restoring standards which demand a simultaneous transformation of all sectors and the recognition of role models, urging the people of Anambra State to continue to seek ways of making the state a great one.
