12,000 NYSC members have been recruited by INEC as ad hoc staff for the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.

This was declared on Tuesday by Professor Lai Olurode, INEC National Commissioner in charge of Training and Research, further disclosing that training of the NYSC members had commenced.

Olurode, who is also the chairman of the board of the Electoral Institute, stated that the use of NYSC members as ad hoc staff was in line with the NYSC management’s pledge to assist INEC in efforts to conduct hitch-free elections in the country, noting that the training which has already commenced was aimed at preparing them adequately for the election duties.

He also disclosed that the commission had to recruit more corps members from Delta and Enugu states to make up, stressing that Anambra State did not have the number of NYSC members that was required.

“Although INEC does not envisage any crisis during the election, the commission has met with the Inter-Agency Committee on Election Security on plans to provide adequate security,” Olurode said.

However, the INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, in preparation for the governorship polls in Anambra, has been scheduled to be in the state next week to address stakeholders.
