A critical financial crisis has hit the Oyo State House of Assembly! This is intense to the extent that, on two separate occasions, members have shunned emergency sittings summoned by the speaker, Hon. Michael Adeyemo.

Information at the disposal of CEOAFRICA source  confirmed that majority of the lawmakers including All Progressives Congress (APC) members decided to shun the sittings because of the financial crisis that has eaten deep into the nerves of the lawmakers.

A source, who is an insider further revealed that, following the receipt of a letter from the governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi requesting the confirmation of tenure elongation for the local government caretaker chairmen by three months, Speaker, Hon. Michael Adeyemo summoned an emergency sitting slated for last week Friday, 15th of July, 2016.

However, as a result of inability of the majority of the lawmakers to show up for the sitting, the Speaker therefore, had no option than to rescheduled the sitting for this week Monday, 18th July, 2016.

On Monday, the situation of Friday repeated itself – only very few honourable members were sighted in their various offices, including some of the principal officers.

CEOAFRICA source  investigation confirmed from another source that the financial situation at the House of Assembly “is very serious and critical”.

Our source added that “the situation has gotten to the level that it has created a communication gap between the leadership of the house and the management”.

It is no more news that many lawmakers have expressed their displeasure over the way the governor has been treating them. They complained about their official cars and various allowances yet to be paid.

“It is this situation of non-payment of allowances that triggered the present action.”

It will also be recalled that the house was supposed to resume from recess last week Tuesday, 12th July, 2016, however, this has been extended to date yet to be announced.

Meanwhile, as a result of a gap in the communication channel of the house, there is no official statement either from the leadership of the house or the management on why the resumption was adjourned, and also why the emergency sittings failed to hold.

Our attempt to reach Yomi Layinka, Governor Ajimobi’s spokesman was not successful. One of his aides, however, pledged to reach us as soon as he is available to give the governor’s angle to the story
