Malawi President, Mrs. Joyce Banda, will on November 28, 2013, deliver the keynote address at the 14th session of the annual Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe Lecture series.

CEOAFRICA gathered that at the lecture which is expected to hold at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos, Banda, the second female president in Africa, will focus on the lecture’s central theme, ‘Genuine Democracy: The Price and The Prize’.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Coordinator General of the foundation, Mr. Michael Anyiam-Osigwe, said Banda would also address the topic – ‘Leadership and the challenge of delivering appropriate dividends of democracy to the citizens.’

On the choice of Banda as the keynote speaker, Anyiam- Osigwe said, “Banda has shown herself as an exemplary leader among her peers in Africa.

“Banda inherited a country in total mess and within a short period, she is turning around the fortunes of the country. She is restoring hope to Malawians who have been despondent

“She has focused her programmes and policies on tackling the problem of poverty and infrastructural deficit since she assumed leadership one and half years ago.

“Malawians can see steady and remarkable progress; Banda knows what she wants for her people and what her priorities are. Even when the country seems not to have the means in terms of money, Banda is focused and determined to turn around the fortunes of her country.”

Banda was applauded globally when she sold the country’s Presidential Jet which her predecessor bought for $22m and another 60 Mercedes Benz limousines bought for executive use.

She said Malawi could not afford the luxury of a jet and limousines for her president while the majority of the citizens wallowed in abject poverty.
