Zimbabwean woman admits stealing from Mr Price, Namibia outlets- bags 3months jail

Namibia- A Zimbabwean woman alleged to have stolen clotting worth N$962.94 from Mr. Price to sell in order to pay her hospital bill was sentenced to 3 months jail alternatively fine of N$ 2000 by Windhoek Magistrate’s Court.

According to report, 26 year old Sheilla Zuidzayi went into Mr. Price clothing retailer and stole a black bag worth N$99.00, one pair of shoes, worth N$89.99 and several clothes, but was apprehended by a vigilant security officer on her way out.

The woman, who pleaded guilty before the presiding magistrate, had said she stole because she wanted to pay her hospital bill. According to her, she came to Namibia on October 26 for medical treatment. The single mother of 3 children however asked the court for forgiveness and leniency saying that could only afford a fine of N$500.

The public prosecutor, Samantha Diergaardt however had no mercy for the accused. He stated that it is evident that the accused deliberately went on stealing spree adding that she had taken the hospitality given to her in Namibia for granted.

The fact that the accused stole in order to pay her hospital fees cannot be seen as a justification. He said.

The Magistrate said that the fact that Sheilla had stolen several items shows greed and that the society needs to be protected from unscrupulous foreigners such as her who abuse hospitality offered to then by stealing from citizens.

Items were recovered from her.
