Ibadan agog as Inspector General of Police commissioned Police Hospital

he Inspector General of Police, MD Abubakar CFR, NPM, mni, on the 5th June 2013, commissioned an Ultra-modern Police hospital at Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan.

The colorful ceremony was graced by His Excellency, Senator Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi, Executive Governor of Oyo State and other government officials, Assistant Inspector General of different Commands, The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Mohammed A. Indabawa, Police Medical Officers of respective rank, Distinguished members of the police force, Royal Fathers, Community Leaders, Professional Bodies like the NUJ, NBA, NMA, and other individuals of respective professions.

In her opening speech, the commissioner of Police in charge of Medical at the South West, CP. Dr. (Mrs) C.F Okafor, commended the Inspector General of Police and the Oyo State Governor for their responsive efforts which enabled the Police Medical Officers to procure the medical equipment and infrastructure to provide quality health services for the members of the police force.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police Medical, CP Dr. (Mrs) Adenike F. Abuwa in her speech, pointed out that Oyo State Police medical care has never had it as good as it is at present, and commended the IG that recognized the need for adequate medical care of police officers. She however, suggested that the medical center should be extended to all the states, stating that health is not just the absence of diseases but also includes the absolute well being of mind and body. She concluded her remark with the promise that the police force would reciprocate by putting the health centre to judicious use.

The Commissioner of Police Medical South-West zone, CP Dr. (Mrs) Chinwe reveals that it was the poor state of Police medical equipment and infrastructure that informed the move for a better equipped police health centre which has come to be this day. She further noted that several medical centre has also been commissioned in various towns like; Oshogbo, Akure, Ogbomosho, Oyo, adding that the Inspector General of Police has done well in catering for the well being of police officers across the whole federation.

The Inspector General of police, MD Abubakar, in his remark, asserts that with the right leadership, greater achievements await the police force. He especially thanked the Oyo State Government for granting the enabling environment and support to achieve this hospital project. Furthermore, the IG said that he had commissioned 25 police medical centre in each state like Enugu, Onitsha, Umuahia,  Jigawa, Sokoto, Zamfara, Niger, Osun, Ekiti, and 3 in Lagos. He stated that there is need for adequate medical service for the police officials to be able to carry out their official duties. He said that ensuring adequate access to good health for officers and their families is a commendable way of encouraging and rewarding officers for the services they render to the society.

MD Abubakar further pledged to render his support to any officer whether constable or a higher officer where it is needed. He concluded by pledging to ensure the provision of medical care centre in every state across Nigeria so as to upgrade the welfare of police officers , and stipulated that all the police officials and members of the executive government are entitled to free medical care likewise the innocent members of the immediate community, noting that the police cannot do without the member of the community which they serve.

Senator Abiola Ajimobi, in his good will message thanked and gave the name “The Transformer and Agent of Quality Change (TAQC)”to the IG of Nigerian Police who he also said  his kind and thoughtful gesture towards the police welfare which has been recognized all over the Nigerian Federation has prove an epitome of excellence.

“The transformation agenda of the Nigerian Inspector General of Police has made life more meaningful to the police”, the Governor said. He also congratulated the police force for their effort in ensuring effective policing and adequate security gallantly contributing to the wealth of Oyo State government which has, before now, been termed “a place of lawlessness”.

He concluded that Oyo State is now a site that attracts world-class investors on account of effective and adequate security offered by the Oyo State police. He finally assured the Oyo State Police Force that the government will always play its part, by offering necessary logistic support to the activities of the Oyo State police command.

The ceremony came to a climax with cutting of cake and formal unveiling of the Ultra-Modern Police Medical Health Centre by both the Inspector General of police and Oyo State Governor.
