The Primate, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, has advised the Federal Government not to depend on the United States in finding a lasting solution to the Boko Haram insurgency.

The Primate gave the advice while briefing reporters on the forthcoming Divine Commonwealth Conference (DIVCON) tagged: “Go Forward”, which is scheduled to take place in Abuja.

Rev. Okoh insisted that the Boko Haram problem is that of the Nigerian government to solve.

It would be recalled that the United States last Wednesday blacklisted Boko Haram and its offshoot, Ansaru, as terror groups, bowing to months of pressure to move against the brutal insurgents who have been responsible for thousands of deaths in northeast and central Nigeria, including dozens of attacks on churches and mosques, targeted killings of civilians.

Rev. Okoh disclosed that the problem is a Nigeria problem and called on government to find a solution to the problem adding that when America has its own problem, does it consult Nigeria? Noting that it is when you don’t do your work you have to run to people each time you have a problem.

The Primate explained that society and church could not be separated; therefore, the church needs to pray and watch with the view of instilling moral values in the people living in the society.

On the ASUU strike, the cleric maintained that though the university education requires proper funding, the university leadership should also be prudent in the little recourses at their disposal.

Throwing his weight behind the agitations of the union, Rev. Okoh called on the government to put in place a strong mechanism that would properly monitor the implementation of projects demanded by ASUU.
