NIGERIA- Following the United States of America’s classification of  Boko Haram and Ansarul sects as terrorist groups, members of the Arewa Youth Forum have decried this, saying it would aggravate the level of insecurity in the country.

The above declaration was made by the National President of the AYF, Alh. Gambo Gujungu, saying the move would escalade terrorism rather than curtail it.

According to him, it is wrong to place faceless groups, whose members are yet unknown, as terrorists.

He said: “The Federal Government has failed in unmasking those behind the Boko Haram attacks and has been spending our resources looking for attackers after each attack.

“It is painful that despite all the intelligence available to Nigeria and the U.S, the real brains behind the terrorists have not been fished out.

“Rather than classifying these groups as FTO, the FG and the U.S should fish them and their sponsors out. We cannot say whether these terrorists are Muslims given the level of their indiscriminate attacks on Muslims and Christians.

“But we are praying fervently to the Almighty Allah to expose those behind terrorism in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Government has declared support for the classification of the two groups as terrorists, saying it was a right step at the right direction.

The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, who spoke with newsmen last night, said: “The US stance is a welcome development; we salute the US Government for partnering with the Federal Government to rout out terrorism.

“This step will assist this nation to deal with these renegades.
“It will also help in strengthening the proscription of Boko Haram by the Federal Government.

“We urge other super powers to emulate the US Government to check terrorism in any part of the world. A threat to any nation by the insurgents is a threat to global peace.”
