Nigeria Police impounds Indian hemp worth N6.5m *Arrest 7 suspects

Nigeria Police force,Oyo State Command has impounded 458 bags of substance suspected to be Indian hemp worth N6.5 million while seven people were arrested.

The state Commissioner of Police Muhammed Indabawa while addressing newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday said a combined team of policemen stormed the farm where large quantities of harvested weeds were uncovered.

 

The police boss who disclosed that the operation lasted over 12 hours, said five suspects were arrested.He gave the names of the suspects as Stephen Osanwe, Peter Frank John Ugoh, Macaulay Akanno and George Elvis.

 

According to him, the suspects were arrested in the farm within the village while a total of 458 bags of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from different location with some already loaded in three buses and one Volvo car. He said that in a related development, policemen attached to Federal Highway Patrol while on patrol along Ibadan/Ijebu-Ode road intercepted one Mercedes Benz car with registration number AE 439 YRE with substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

 

He said the vehicle with two occupants refused to stop for checking, given a hot chase and was forcefully put to a stop.When the vehicle was searched, he said a bag of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in the vehicle boot was recovered. According to him, the two occupants, Sunday Obi and Ugochukwu Njoku were arrested.
