GHANA- Black Stars Coach, Kwesi Appiah, has revealed that African coaches can perform at the highest stage if given the chance and necessary supports to do so.

He said this shortly after Ghana sealed their place at the 2014 FIFA World Cup coming up in Brazil despite going down 2-1 to Egypt in Cairo. Black Stars qualified 7-3 on aggregates, having won the first leg of the encounter in Kumasi 6-1 few weeks ago.

Appiah said he was delighted to have qualified Ghana for the forthcoming mundia; a feat which Nigeria’s Stephen Keshi also achieved with the African Champions, the Super Eagles.

"All that we have been saying all along is that, given support and opportunity from football authorities, local coaches will deliver credible results and it gives me great pleasure what has happened to Keshi with Nigeria and now with me and Ghana too.

”The support from government, Ghana Football Association and players has been tremendous and has made it possible for me to produce the results" said Appiah.

He said the match against Egypt was very tough, but the team slowed the Pharaos down during the cause of the game.

We knew the Egyptians would be in a hurry and we opted to slow down play and l thought we did that well, he concluded.
