Presidential Cabinet in Ghana To Take 10% Pay Cut In 2014

GHANA- In 2014, President John Mahama, his Vice, Kwesi Amissah-Arthur and all members of the cabinet will take a pay cut of 10 percent of their salaries.

This was revealed by the Minister for Finance, Mr. Seth Terkper, during the presentation of the 2014 budget. He described this move as a true demonstration of leadership qualities of the cabinet.

" In the spirit of the partnership from Ho, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama, His Vice President, Ministers and appointees have decided to take a voluntary 10 per cent pay cut for 2014."he said .

Mr Terkper said the amount to be deducted by the Controller and Accountant General would be deposited in a special fund which would be dedicated to maternal and neonatal health.

"The amount to be deducted will be paid into a fund to be dedicated to special purpose (Community Health Programmes and Service) CHPS compounds, to focus on maternal and neonatal health," he stated.

The Finance Minister also said President John Mahama is working day and night to enhance transparent governance and that the target growth rate of 8% is expected for the year 2014.
