Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has finally reached the conclusion that it would hold its elections into local councils by January 30, 2014.

Chairman of the commission, Peter Dalyop, addressing newsmen in Jos yesterday, said after a number of meetings with chairmen of political parties in the state, it had been agreed that the council elections should be shifted from an earlier scheduled date of 21st December 2013 to the more suitable date of 30th January 2014.

Daylop recalled that during a meeting held on the 28th of October, 2013 between PLASIEC and state chairmen of political parties, it was agreed that PLASIEC should shift the date of elections earlier fixed for the 21st of December, 2013 to a suitable date.

The commission therefore announced to all stakeholders and the general public that after due consultations with all stakeholders, the date have been fixed for local government elections in the state to hold on Thursday, 30th January, 2014.

Daylop said the new date was arrived at after considerations for the approaching Christmas season and the funeral for the first civilian governor of the state, Chief Solomon Lar.
