Radio Nigeria Ibadan, has held a valedictory lecture in honour of its Deputy Director of Programmes, Mr. Onafurume Ono Gabriel to mark his retirement from active service.

The event which was anchored with two notable themes “Sustaining Broadcasting Tradition-FRCN as a Case Study” delivered by the celebrant, Onofurume Ono Gabriel and “Coping With life after Retirement” delivered by the guest speaker, Dr Sam Aikhoje, took place at the station’s premises in Ibadan.

The renowned media icon, in his lecture at the occasion, recalled the rudiments of broadcasting, noting that FRCN despite various challenges in the sustainability of broadcasting tradition has maintained high standard quality, upheld the NTBB (Not to Be Broadcast) of broadcasting and have always ensure to meet the UNESCO demand of Media which include contents like Cultural, Informational and Instructional material.

Onofurume further remarked that FRCN has always done its best in pursuing its prior goal which comes informs of Surveillance function (information gathering), Correlation function (clarification of gathered information), Cultural, Entertainment, Economic integration and Social Mobilisation function.

‘Angel’ as he is fondly called by colleagues stated that FRCN while pursuing it goals, also take cognizance of the fact that its listeners are entitled to exposition towards refined cultural practices, harmless entertainment, enhanced instructional and educational material.

The guest speaker at the lecture, Dr Sam Aikhoje  spoke concisely on the theme of Coping with life after retirement, pointing out that retirement needs proper planning for one to cope with the sweet and sour aspect of the change which is a compulsory phase in the life every worker.

He emphatically stated that only those who are able to adjust to change that comes with retirement enjoys it and live longer than those who did not plan for it and therefore cannot adjust, also stating that there is need to engage oneself in social activities, proper health precaution to avoid boredom and some avoidable health problems.

Dr Aikhoje highlighted the importance of accomplishing major projects before retirement through proper planning, quoting a Shakespearean line that an old man is twice a child therefore do not need to be belabored at that age and also encourages that people should live a worthwhile life so that when people cry at his death, he would be rejoicing because of the legacy he left behind

Mr. Onafurume apart from being the former Studio Deputy Director of Programmes of Radio Nigeria and the General Manager of Premier FM Ibadan, is also the Chief editor, CEOAFRICA Newsletter and man of excellence in all ramification of his career.
