ASUU STRIKE: NIGERIANS URGE ASUU AND FG TO COME TO TERMS

Parents, students and other stakeholders of the University system have called on the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities to consciously revisit the contending issues and put an end to over four month ASUU strike.

Speaking to CEOAFRICA on Monday pertaining the prolonged strike, Mr. Samuel Mwansat, National President of the Association of Nigeria University Professional Administrator lamented that students, parents and other stakeholders are suffering the consequences of the misdemeanor intensively, beckoning on both parties to come to a compromise.

He pointed out that the federal government should endeavor to look into some glaring fact about education today, stressing that more resources should be made available to meet the growing population of the tertiary education.

Mr. Mwansat also pleaded with ASUU stating that though their agitation appear germane and realistic, the Union need to play down on some demands too, considering that other sectors of the economy are also relying on the limited resources.

Speaking in the same lane, Itumo Ebuka, a second year student of University of Ibadan, lamented the frustrating effect of the over four months ASUU strike, stressing that many students have been forced to drop, some planning to while many have travel out to continue their education in foreign countries.

He blamed the Federal Government for not honouring the agreement it entered into with union since 2009, while also blaming the union for not allowing the students to complete the session before embarking on the incessant strike.

Ebuka however, called on the Federal Government and Academic Staff Union of Universities to find a possible means of quitting the “dog fight” and come to terms in ending the strike.
