Cairo — An Alexandria court yesterday sentenced 21 women to 11 years in prison  for blocking the Corniche Road while participating in a demonstration to support ousted President Mohamed Mursi earlier this month.

Security forces fired teargas and dispersed a protest in solidarity with the defendants earlier on Wednesday.

The 21 defendants were arrested by security forces earlier in November as they attempted to stage a protest to back Mursi before his trial.

The defendants were charged with disrupting traffic and vandalizing public property during their protest.
