Cries rented the air when 11 people died in a road accident in Kenya's western county of Kisumu.
Ceoafrica gathered that the public service vehicle, known locally as matatu, was travelling from the border town of SIrare to Kisumu before it veered off the road and hit a ditch, thereby killing 11 people.
It was further gathered that survivors of the accident have been taken to local hospitals, and that road accidents are common in Kenya due to overloading and speeding.
Kisumu is a port city in Kisumu County, Kenya with a population of 409,928 people and the third largest city in Kenya and also the immediate former capital of Nyanza Province.
It has a municipal charter and it is the largest city in Nyanza region and second most important city after Kampala in the greater Lake Victoria basin.
