Pensioners in Osun State have appealed to the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola to pay their gratuities and the outstanding balance of their pension for the past 18 months.
According to Ceoafrica, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in the state, Comrade Omoniyi Ilesanmi said the state government owed the retired workers their gratuities and half of their pension between July 2014 and December, 2016.
Omoniyi said the NUP has set up a centre near the Nelson Mandela Freedom Park and named it as Internally Displaced Pensioners’ Camp which was dedicated to helping pensioners who need help.
Speaking further at the venue where pensioners were given food and offered free medical check-up, Omoniyi said the retired civil servants were not ready to forfeit the outstanding balance of their pension.
His said “We have been receiving half of our pension on a monthly basis since July 2014 till December 2016. That is 18 months and of half payment and that amount to nine months pension arrears and we urge the governor to pay this outstanding balance immediately”.
“We are also calling on the governor to pay the gratuities of the pensioners that retired between 2008 and 2012. It is our entitlement and it should not be denied”, Omoniyi added.
