Anambra Governorship Election:Willie Obiano Declared Winner as Jonathan Congratulates Him

NIGERIA- Chief Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APC) has been declared winner of the 2013 governorship election in Anambra State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This followed the conclusion of Saturday’s supplementary election held in over 210 polling units, as a result of the November 16 election declared inconclusive by the electoral body.

In the final result as announced Sunday morning, Obiano polled a total of 180, 178 votes while Tony Nwoye of the PDP came second with 97, 700 votes.

Chris Ngige of the APC and Ifeanyi Ubah of the Labour party came third and fourth, respectively, with 95, 963 and 37, 495 votes.

According to the results already released by INEC, total number of votes cast is 442, 242; total number of valid votes stood at 425, 254 and total number of rejected votes put at 16, 988.

Further analysis shows that APGA won 16 local governments namely; Aguata, Ayamelum, Anambra East, Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka North, Awka South, Ekwusigo, Ihiala, Njikoka, Nnewi South, Ogbaru, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Orumba North and Orumba South.

The PDP won in Oyi and Dunukofia, APC won in Idemili North and South, while Labour party won in Nnewi North.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has congratulated Chief Willie Obiano, the Winner of the governorship election in the state. Presidential Spokesman, Rueben Abati, who conveyed his principal’s message via his twitter handle, said the Federal Government will continue to work with all state governments for the good of the country.

The President advised the Governor-Elect to promote greater peace, unity, harmony, and to also carry all stakeholders along to move Anambra State forward.
