Fake Policeman arrested for extortion

Twenty-five-year-old fake policeman, Damilare Olajide has been arrested for allegedly impersonating and extorting money from commercial motorcycle operators in Ibadan, Oyo State.

 

The suspect who was arrested by police detectives from Eleyele Police Division had been going about claiming to be a policeman attached to Mokola Police Division. On several occasions, the suspect who had been terrorizing commercial motorcycle operators in the state capital, had arrested motorcyclists and collected money from them before they were released.

 

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olabisi Ilobanafor who confirmed the arrest in Ibadan on Wednesday, said there had been several complaints from the operators on the illegal activities of the fake policeman. The police image maker who disclosed that a policeman who had been conniving with the suspect had been dismissed and charged to court.

 

She disclosed that the suspect was arrested at Eleyele after collecting money from two motorcyclists, adding the sum of N1, 950 in N50 denomination was found in his possession. According to her, the affected motorcyclists had testified that the suspect collected money from them. She recalled that the suspect was arrested for similar offence three weeks ago and was charged to court, adding that the  matter is pending in court.

 

Speaking, the suspect who claimed to be a former student of Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, said he was lured into by some policemen three months. He confirmed that he been going around, claiming to be a policeman and extorting money from the unsuspecting commercial motorcycle operators.

Who claimed he built two-bedroom flat, said he did not achieve anything apart from the N200 and N300 he collects from motorcyclists
